Experienced, trained domestic couples can fill such a wide variety of needs in a home that when they begin on a temporary or seasonal basis they often morph into full-time domestic employees. For instance, a couple may be hired for three or so months to handle parties, care for the grounds and do basic housekeeping for the employer’s summer home. As it often happens, the family is so impressed by the couples’ performance and skill level that they often decide to have the couple work for them full time in their city residence thereby helping to make the employer’s lifestyle fuller and more full filling. Then again, a family may hire a couple for special occasions only to find that as they advance both financially and socially, their need for a gifted couple who can handle all parties and gathering increases exponentially as well as the increased need for higher caliber housekeeping and finer cooking than was originally anticipated. Hiring this type of couple often makes more sense financially than constantly bringing outside help to meet their changing needs. Additionally, as the family increases with new children, hiring a couple in which one member is a skilled childcare specialist as well a meticulous housekeeper may make sense from a dollars and cents standpoint and, assuming the other member is an excellent cook, houseman and chauffeur, may in turn contribute to a better organized, more smoothly running home. In short, what may begin as a temporary placement for a good couple may well transition into a permanent arrangement with a family with all the benefits to the home that the couple can contribute.
